State of Auto-Apply 2026: 100,000 Applications Analyzed

August 10, 2026 · 11 min read
We analyzed 100,317 LinkedIn Easy Apply submissions from 2,412 jobseekers across 40 countries between January 1 and August 8, 2026. This is the largest public dataset on auto-apply outcomes we're aware of. Full methodology at the end.

Headline numbers

Reply rate by industry

Aggregating by target company's primary industry (from LinkedIn Company data at time of application):

IndustryReply rateApplications sampled
Healthcare9.4%8,240
Skilled trades8.7%3,105
Financial services6.3%14,120
Software engineering5.1%28,470
Sales4.8%11,680
Operations / logistics4.5%9,530
Marketing3.2%10,450
Design2.8%6,890
Product management2.6%7,832

Healthcare's lead is not surprising — the ongoing US nursing shortage means every qualified application gets a reply. Product management's 2.6% is the flip side: 400-800 applicants per posting is now normal, and the recruiter simply can't respond to most.

Day-of-week effect

Same job posting, same tailoring level — the day you hit Submit matters more than most jobseekers realize:

DayReply rateDelta vs Tuesday
Monday5.1%−12%
Tuesday5.8%
Wednesday5.4%−7%
Thursday4.9%−16%
Friday3.1%−47%
Saturday1.9%−67%
Sunday2.4%−59%

Why Tuesday? Recruiters use Monday to sync with hiring managers, get to inbox by Tuesday morning. Applications submitted late Monday or early Tuesday sit at the top of that first review pass — the highest attention slot of the week.

The tailoring premium

The biggest lever we found in the entire dataset is whether the CV was rewritten for the specific JD:

Tailoring roughly quadruples reply odds versus the mass-send default. The lift is largest in high-competition roles: for product managers the tailored-vs-untailored gap is 6.8× (4.4% vs 0.65%); in healthcare it's only 1.6× because reply rates are already high across the board.

The volume-plus-quality math

We split the sample by weekly application volume per user and tracked interview rate (any live conversation with a recruiter or hiring manager, not just an autoresponder):

Weekly volumeInterview rateInterviews / month (expected)
1-5 applications/week3.1%0.4-0.6
6-15/week4.2%1.0-2.5
16-25/week5.7%3.6-5.7
25+/week7.0%7-15

Note the compounding: a jobseeker sending 30 tailored applications per week averages 10-15 interviews per month — enough to compare offers instead of taking the first one that comes along. Under 10/week and you're at the mercy of a single hiring manager's inbox mood.

ATS pass rate

Of the 100,317 applications, we can definitively confirm ATS pass (defined as: reached a human reviewer, either replied or measurably viewed via LinkedIn view-count) for 52,144. That's a raw 52% ATS pass rate — meaning 48% of applications never reached a human. Broken down by ATS platform:

ATS platformPass rate
LinkedIn Easy Apply (internal)68%
Workday44%
Greenhouse58%
Lever61%
iCIMS39%
Taleo32%

iCIMS and Taleo — used by Fortune 500 traditional employers — filter the hardest. Modern ATSs (Greenhouse, Lever) let more through. LinkedIn's own is the most permissive, which is one reason Easy Apply beats direct-portal for volume.

What the data does not say

Three things we could not measure but that matter:

Methodology

Data was collected from the AutoApplyMax Chrome extension, which auto-submits LinkedIn Easy Apply forms and universally autofills forms on Indeed, Glassdoor, Greenhouse, Workday, Lever, iCIMS, and 100+ other ATS portals. Every submitted application is logged server-side with anonymized metadata (target company, industry, timestamp, tailoring level). Users can mark applications as replied or interview scheduled via the dashboard; those manual markings are the source of the reply and interview rate figures.

Sample: 2,412 active users, 100,317 applications, 40 countries. Country distribution: 34% US, 22% India, 11% UK, 8% Canada, 6% Germany, 6% France, 4% Australia, 9% other. Time window: January 1 – August 8, 2026. Data as of August 10, 2026.

How to use this data

  1. Tailor every CV. The 4× reply-rate premium is the highest-ROI move on the list. If you don't have time, use AutoApplyMax's AI Resume tool — 30 seconds per role.
  2. Batch submissions Monday evening or Tuesday morning in the recruiter's timezone. Avoid Friday afternoons and weekends.
  3. Target 20-30 applications/week, not 5. The interview-rate delta between low and high volume is 2.3×.
  4. Run your CV through the free ATS Score Checker before submitting to iCIMS/Taleo/Workday portals — those filter hardest.
