How to use these resources
You do not need to read everything. Most job seekers get the most out of this page by following one path, from the job they want to the application they send.
- Pick the role you are aiming for. Open the resume example for that job title and the matching resume keywords page. Note the skills and tools that come up again and again, and the ones you really have.
- Choose a layout. Start from one of the ATS-friendly resume templates. If it is your first job, the resume format for freshers shows which sections to put first when you have little experience.
- Check it against a real posting. Paste your resume and a job description into the ATS score checker to see the missing keywords and formatting issues before you apply.
- Learn the process. The job search guides cover the steps in order: where to look, how to apply, how to follow up and how to prepare for interviews. Keep the glossary open when a posting uses a term you do not know.
- Choose your tools. Before you pay for anything, the comparisons put AutoApplyMax next to other job search tools, and the FAQ answers questions about plans, credits and your data.
Examples, templates and keywords: what is the difference?
A resume example is a complete sample resume for one job, with the kind of bullets, skills and summary that role usually calls for. A template is the empty layout: fonts, sections and spacing, ready for your own content. A keywords page lists the hard skills, tools and phrases that appear in job descriptions for a role, so you can check which ones your resume already covers. Use the example for wording ideas, the template for the layout and the keyword list as a checklist, and keep every line true to your own experience.
Written for the US and Canadian job market
The guides and examples follow North American conventions: no photo, no date of birth and no marital status on the resume, a one-page resume for most early-career profiles and two pages when a long career needs it, and reverse-chronological experience with results in each bullet. Canadian resumes follow almost the same rules. If you apply in the UK, the ATS CV checker follows UK CV conventions, and French-speaking applicants can use the test CV ATS.
From reading to applying
When your resume is ready, the free tools take you the rest of the way: the bullet point checker scores each line of your experience, the summary generator writes the top of the page, and a free account adds the AI resume builder, cover letters and LinkedIn auto-apply. How articles are written and updated is explained in our editorial process.
