Tyler Robinson: Inside Sales Representative
Tyler's resume shows a first-year rep with real numbers: revenue closed, quota, rank and activity. The retail job stays because it proves selling skill and customer focus before his first quota. A short-cycle SMB role values activity and speed, so his bullets talk about calls, demos and cycle length.

How to write each section of a sales representative resume
Header and summary
Keep the header simple with phone, email, city and LinkedIn. For outside sales, mention willingness to travel or the territory you cover, since many postings require it. Your summary should state what you sell, to whom, deal size or cycle length, and your recent attainment.
Sales managers move fast. If your best number is in the summary, they see it even if they never read your bullets.
Numbers and attainment
Give attainment by year where you can, as a share of quota for each year rather than one blended figure. Add rankings, President's Club or similar awards, book size, number of accounts and new logos. If quota changed mid-year or territories were reassigned, say so briefly rather than hiding a weak year.
Never inflate numbers. Sales leaders often verify attainment with references or ask for commission statements.
Experience
Beyond attainment, show how you sell: prospecting methods, discovery, demos, negotiation, renewals and expansion. Mention the buyers you work with, such as owners, procurement teams or clinical committees, because buyer type predicts whether you will succeed in a new role.
If you moved from inside to outside sales or from SMB to enterprise, make the progression obvious. It answers the question of whether you can handle bigger deals.
Skills and tools
List the CRM you use daily, prospecting tools, and any methodology you were trained in, such as MEDDICC, Challenger, SPIN or Sandler. Include industry knowledge that shortens ramp time, like construction safety products or hospital purchasing.
Languages are a real advantage in sales. Spanish in many US regions and French in Canada can open whole segments, so list your level honestly.
Education, training and licenses
A degree is often preferred but not required for many sales roles; list it briefly. Some products require licenses before you can sell them, such as insurance, securities or real estate, so list active licenses with the state or province.
Formal sales training programs and awards belong here or in a short achievements section, especially when they come from a well-known employer program.
Sales Representative resume summary examples
Entry-level objective: Communication graduate seeking an inside sales or business development role in B2B software. Brings two years of retail sales leading the store in attached sales, a HubSpot sales certification and comfort with high-volume phone outreach.
It names a realistic first role and shows selling results from retail, which hiring managers accept as proof.
First-year rep summary: Inside sales representative selling SaaS to small home-service businesses, at or above quota for four straight quarters. Self-sources most pipeline through cold calls and email, runs fast demos and keeps sales cycles short with clear next steps.
Quota history, deal type and prospecting habits are exactly what SMB sales managers screen for.
Mid-level summary: Territory sales representative with six years in industrial and safety supplies, managing a $4.2 million book across northern Alberta. President's Club winner who grows key accounts with site visits and wins public tenders.
Book size, territory, award and growth method make the candidate easy to compare against others.
Senior summary: Senior medical capital equipment rep with 13 years in hospital and surgery center sales. Runs long committee-driven cycles with clinical, finance and procurement buyers, ranks consistently in the top quartile and coaches new territory managers.
It shows deal complexity and sustained performance, which matter more than activity at senior level.
Sales Representative resume bullet examples: weak vs strong
The strong versions use made-up figures for a fictional candidate. Replace them with your own real numbers, or describe the scope (team size, volume, frequency) if you have none.
Exact attainment and rank are the first numbers a sales manager looks for.
Shows the result of prospecting, not just the activity, and names the segment.
Ties account management to a growth number and a repeatable method.
Naming the stakeholders proves you can manage a committee sale, not just a buyer.
Shows how you displaced an incumbent, which managers value highly.
A process change with a measurable effect on cycle length shows sales discipline.
Forecast accuracy is a skill managers trust, unlike simple CRM hygiene.
Gives the contract length and value for a process many reps avoid.

Soft skills, and how to prove them
- Resilience: Show sustained activity and results over several quarters, or recovery after a tough territory change.
- Listening: Describe a deal won because discovery uncovered a need the customer had not stated at first.
- Relationship building: Mention long-term accounts you kept or grew and the renewal or expansion results.
- Self-management: Point to self-sourced pipeline, territory plans or forecast accuracy that shows you run your own business.
- Coaching: For senior reps, name new reps you mentored and how they performed.
Certifications and licenses
- Certified Sales Professional (CSP) (Canadian Professional Sales Association (CPSA)): Canadian sales designation combining an exam, experience and an ethics code; recognized by some Canadian employers.
- HubSpot Inbound Sales Certification (HubSpot Academy): Free course useful for entry-level SaaS reps and teams that run on HubSpot.
- Series 7 (General Securities Representative) (FINRA): Required to sell most securities in the US; list it only for financial product sales roles.

US vs Canada: sales representative resumes and pay
United States
US sales titles vary: account executive is common in software, while territory manager and sales representative are common in industrial and medical sales. Selling securities requires FINRA exams such as the Series 7 plus state registration, and insurance sales require a state producer license. Medical device reps often need hospital vendor credentialing. Many employers check for non-compete or non-solicit agreements, so be ready to discuss them in interviews, but do not list them on the resume. Use US dollar figures for quotas.
| BLS occupation | 10th pct. | Median | 90th pct. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sales Representatives, Wholesale and Manufacturing, Except Technical and Scientific Products (SOC 41-4012) closest BLS category | $39,090 | $72,080 | $137,550 |
Annual wages, US national, BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics, May 2025.
Canada
Canadian sales roles look similar, but territories are often larger and cover several regions or provinces, so state geography clearly. Selling insurance requires a provincial license, securities sales fall under CIRO and provincial regulators, and real estate is licensed provincially. French is often required in Quebec and for national accounts with Quebec customers. The CPSA offers a Canadian sales designation. Public sector sales involve tendering platforms and procurement rules that differ by province, so tender experience is worth naming.
| Job Bank occupation | Low | Median | High |

FAQ
How should I show quota attainment on a sales resume?
Give the percentage of quota by year, with the dollar amount if you can share it, and add rank or awards. For example, write the attainment figure next to the quota size, followed by President's Club if you earned it. If a year was weak due to a territory change, give the context in a few words rather than leaving it out.
What if my job didn't have a formal quota?
Use other measures: revenue generated, new accounts, average order value, conversion rate or growth in your accounts. Retail and customer-facing roles can show attached sales, rankings or targets you exceeded. Make the selling activity clear even without a quota.
Should I include my commission or earnings?
No. Earnings belong in the conversation with the recruiter, not on the resume. Use attainment, revenue and rankings instead. Some employers ask for proof of past performance later, so keep commission statements available.
How do I move from retail to B2B sales?
Highlight measurable selling results from retail, such as rankings, attached sales or targets beaten, and any outbound or phone work. A short summary naming inside sales or business development as your target helps. Free sales courses and a CRM certification show you have started learning the B2B process.
How long should a sales representative resume be?
One page is enough for most reps under about ten years of experience. Senior reps with several roles and awards can use two pages. Keep every bullet focused on results, and cut duties that every rep performs, such as updating the CRM.
