How to write a sales, marketing or service resume with honest results
Quota and targets: report them the way your manager would
Sales leaders know how quota attainment works, so they notice when a number looks too good or lacks context. Give the result with its period and basis, for example the share of annual quota you reached, your rank on a team, or the new accounts you opened in a territory. Only use figures you could defend in a reference call. If your company did not share attainment, describe the result in words, such as top performer recognition or a President's Club trip.
Add the context that makes the number meaningful: inbound or outbound, transactional or enterprise, deal size range, sales cycle length and the type of buyer.
Name your CRM and sales or marketing stack
Most teams expect new hires to work in their tools from the first week. Group them on your resume so a recruiter can scan quickly.
- CRM and sales engagement: Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho, Outreach, Salesloft, LinkedIn Sales Navigator.
- Marketing: Google Ads, Meta Ads Manager, Google Analytics 4, Marketo, Mailchimp, SEO tools such as Semrush or Ahrefs.
- Service and support: Zendesk, Freshdesk, Salesforce Service Cloud, Intercom, call center platforms.
- Creative: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Figma, Canva for quick social assets.
- Retail: point-of-sale systems, workforce scheduling and inventory software, plus loss prevention and visual merchandising standards you enforced on the floor.
Marketers: connect activity to pipeline
A list of campaigns is less persuasive than a line that explains what a campaign was for and what came out of it. State the channel, the audience, the budget you managed if you managed one, and the result measured in leads, sign-ups, conversion, cost per acquisition or revenue influenced. When you do not have trustworthy figures, explain the change you made and how it was received. Show that you can work with sales on lead quality, not just volume.
Customer service: show resolution and judgment
Support roles are judged on how calmly and correctly you fix problems. Describe the channels you covered (phone, chat, email, in person), the products or accounts you supported, and the metrics your team tracked, such as customer satisfaction, first contact resolution or handle time, using your own real results. Mention escalations you handled, knowledge base articles you wrote, new agents you trained and any bilingual service, which is valued in Canada for English and French. Retail and hospitality service experience counts too when you frame it around problem solving rather than tasks.
Designers and creatives: let the portfolio do the heavy lifting
For graphic designers the resume is a guide to the portfolio, not a replacement for it. Put the portfolio link in the header, keep the resume itself clean and readable by applicant tracking systems, and resist decorative layouts that break parsing. In each role, name the type of work (brand identity, packaging, social campaigns, print, motion) and the brands or teams you supported, and credit collaboration honestly.
Curate the portfolio for the job: an agency wants range, an in-house brand team wants consistency within one visual system, and a product company may care more about interface or presentation work. Show the brief, your contribution and the final piece for each project, and remove student work once you have stronger professional examples.
Tailoring for each customer-facing role
A business-to-business sales role, a retail store manager opening and a support position each reward different details, so reorder your bullets and adjust your summary for every application. Leave out photos, age and marital status for US and Canadian employers. The AutoApplyMax builder rewrites your own resume against a job description you paste, and the free ATS checker shows which posting keywords you still need to add.
FAQ
How do I write quota attainment on a sales resume?
State the result with its period and basis, such as the share of annual quota reached, your ranking among peers or new accounts won, and only use numbers you could confirm with a former manager. Add context like deal size, territory and sales cycle. If your employer never published attainment, describe recognition or results in words instead of guessing.
Which CRM should I list on a sales or service resume?
List every CRM you have used day to day, with Salesforce and HubSpot named exactly as written if they apply. Add sales engagement, support desk or analytics tools you worked in. Then mention the main platform inside one bullet so the reader sees what you did with it, such as managing a pipeline or building dashboards.
What metrics belong on a customer service resume?
Use the measures your team actually tracked, such as customer satisfaction, first contact resolution, quality scores or handle time, and only with your own real results. Pair each with context like channel and product. If you do not have figures, describe escalations resolved, recognition received, or processes you improved for the support team.
Do graphic designers need a resume if they have a portfolio?
Yes. Many employers still screen through applicant tracking systems that read the resume, not the portfolio. Keep the resume simple and text-based, with the portfolio link at the top, the tools you use and a short description of the work in each role. The portfolio then shows the quality the resume describes.
Are these sales and marketing resume examples free to use?
Yes. You may read and adapt all of these samples for free, and the people, brands and companies shown are fictional. Replace every figure and name with your own accurate details. To rebuild your resume in one of these templates, upload it to the AutoApplyMax builder and paste the posting you want to apply for.
