Mateo Guerrero: NOC Technician
Mateo's NOC bullets prove he troubleshoots with evidence: alarm triage, carrier tickets, a failing optic found from counters. The school district internship adds hands-on switch configuration and documentation. A GNS3 lab with OSPF and BGP sits in projects because it shows routing practice a NOC job does not yet give him, and he can link the configs.

Amara Nwosu: Senior Network Analyst
Amara's resume is built around projects with clear scope: an SD-WAN migration across 85 stores, network access control, IP address cleanup. Each bullet names the vendor and what changed for the business. In Canada she uses Network Analyst rather than Engineer because she is not a licensed engineer, while the work described is the same.

How to write each section of a network engineer resume
Header and headline
Include name, city, phone, email and LinkedIn. A GitHub link is worth adding if it holds lab configs, automation scripts or a write-up of a design, because network candidates rarely show their work and it stands out.
Use a headline matching the posting: NOC Engineer, Network Administrator, Network Engineer, Network Analyst or Network Architect. Add the main vendor or specialty if it fits the role, such as Network Engineer, Cisco and SD-WAN.
Summary
Give years of experience, the types of networks you run (campus, branch WAN, data center, service provider, cloud) and your main vendors and protocols. Then name one or two projects that show your level, such as a migration, a new fabric or a segmentation rollout.
If you hold an active certification the posting names, it can appear in the summary as well as in its own section.
Experience
For each job, state the size of the environment: sites, devices, users, racks, subscribers or bandwidth. Then show changes you designed or carried out, with the vendor and protocol named. Good outcomes include outages removed, migrations finished on schedule, circuits consolidated, faster provisioning and audit findings closed.
Mention how you work, not only what you configure: change windows, rollback plans, peer reviews, on-call participation and post-incident reviews. Those details tell a hiring manager you can be trusted with production.
Certifications and labs
Network hiring still leans on certifications. Put CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, PCNSE or cloud networking credentials in their own section near the top for junior candidates and after experience for senior ones. Do not list expired certifications as current.
A lab project helps candidates moving up from help desk or NOC work. Describe the topology and what you tested: OSPF areas, BGP failover, VLAN design or firewall policies. Link the configs or diagrams if they are tidy.
Skills and education
Group skills by routing and switching, security, wireless, cloud networking, automation and tools. List protocols you have run in production ahead of ones you have only studied, and avoid listing every vendor you once logged into.
Degrees in computer networking, information systems or computer science are common, and college diplomas plus certifications are widely accepted. List the program and year without detail once you have a few years of experience.
Network Engineer resume summary examples
Entry-level objective: CCNA-certified networking graduate seeking a junior network or NOC engineer role on a team running routed enterprise or ISP networks. Brings a year of alarm triage and carrier escalation plus a GNS3 lab covering OSPF, eBGP and failover testing.
It names the target environment and pairs the certification with real troubleshooting, which is what a network manager hiring a junior wants.
New-grad summary: Network technician with NOC experience on a regional fiber backbone and an internship deploying 48 school access switches. Troubleshoots from interface counters, logs and packet captures before escalating, and keeps diagrams and runbooks current.
Specific environments and methods show habits, not just coursework, and documentation is a trait managers struggle to find.
Mid-level summary: Network analyst with six years running multi-site LAN, WAN and wireless. Led an 85-store MPLS to SD-WAN migration, rolled out network access control with Cisco ISE and builds Ansible playbooks so standard configs are reviewed before they ship.
Two projects with scale and one automation habit make the candidate's level obvious in a few seconds of reading.
Senior summary: Principal network engineer with fourteen years across service provider, data center and hybrid cloud networks. Designs EVPN-VXLAN fabrics and BGP edges, connects on-premises networks to AWS with guardrails and leads a team that tests every change before production.
It leads with breadth of environments and design work, then shows leadership through the change process rather than a title.
Network Engineer resume bullet examples: weak vs strong
The strong versions use made-up figures for a fictional candidate. Replace them with your own real numbers, or describe the scope (team size, volume, frequency) if you have none.
Shows method and root cause, which interviewers will probe anyway.
Ownership, scale, vendor and the business-critical traffic protected all appear in one line.
A design decision with its reason is stronger than a maintenance task.
Explains what was segmented and why, rather than implying routine rule edits.
Shows automation as a consistency and risk control, which matters more than the tool itself.
Connects radio work to the people who depended on it.
Names services, the infrastructure-as-code approach and the benefit to other teams.
Turns paperwork into a tangible operational result that a manager can verify.

US vs Canada: network engineer resumes and pay
United States
In the US, Network Engineer is an unregulated title and employers use it for roles ranging from administration to architecture, so describe your actual scope. Defense, federal and contractor roles may require US citizenship, a security clearance or DoD 8140-approved certifications, so list an active clearance and qualifying credentials clearly. Telecom employers may want experience with carrier-grade equipment and on-call rotations. Do not include a photo, age or marital status.
| BLS occupation | 10th pct. | Median | 90th pct. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Computer Network Architects (SOC 15-1241) closest BLS category | $79,900 | $134,050 | $202,680 |
Annual wages, US national, BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics, May 2025.
Canada
Engineer is a regulated title in Canadian provinces, overseen by bodies such as Professional Engineers Ontario and APEGA, so many employers post Network Analyst, Network Administrator or Network Specialist, and unlicensed candidates should use those as headlines. Keep employer titles as they were. Canadian spelling such as centre is normal. Bilingual English and French skills help in Quebec and federal government roles, which may also require Reliability Status or a higher security clearance. State work authorization if you are not a citizen or permanent resident.

FAQ
Is the CCNA still worth it?
For entry-level and early-career candidates, yes. It is listed in a large share of junior network postings and proves you know routing, switching and subnetting. Once you have several years of production work, experience matters more, and a professional-level certification or cloud credential adds more than a second associate one.
How do I go from help desk or NOC work to network engineering?
Take on network tasks wherever you can, such as switch replacements, VLAN changes or carrier troubleshooting, and describe them on your resume. Add a CCNA and a lab project with routing and failover. Target titles like Network Administrator or Junior Network Engineer as a bridge.
Should I list network automation if I only know a little Python?
List it if you have used it for real work, even small scripts that pull configs or check interfaces, and describe one example in a bullet. Do not list frameworks you have only read about. Interviewers often ask you to walk through a script you wrote.
How long should a network engineer resume be?
One page for junior candidates and two pages for experienced engineers is common. Keep the second page for real projects and recent roles. Long lists of every device model or every protocol you studied take space without convincing anyone.
Can I call myself a network engineer in Canada?
Engineer is a protected title in every province, and using it to describe yourself without a licence can draw attention from the provincial regulator. Keep your employer's official title as it was on your job history, and use Network Analyst or Network Specialist as your headline if you are not licensed.
