Daniel Huang: Staff Pharmacist
Daniel's first months as a pharmacist are short, so his internship carries the detail: counseling, claims, medication reviews. Workload is shown through prescription volume and team size. His license and immunization certificate appear in the credentials list, and Mandarin is named because it is a real service to patients. Rotations go in projects to show clinical breadth beyond retail.

How to write each section of a pharmacist resume
Licensure and credentials
Put a credentials block right below your header. In the US, list each state license, immunization certification and any board certification such as BCPS or BCACP. Mention that you passed the NAPLEX only if you are newly licensed or awaiting a license; once licensed, the license itself is enough.
In Canada, name your registration with the provincial college, such as the Ontario College of Pharmacists or the Alberta College of Pharmacy, and any additional authorities you hold, such as injection authorization or prescribing authority. Candidates still completing the PEBC Qualifying Exam or provincial jurisprudence exam can state their expected completion.
Summary
Open with your practice setting and years: community, hospital, ambulatory care, long-term care, specialty or industry. Add the services you deliver, such as immunizations, medication reviews, anticoagulation or pharmacokinetic dosing, and one sign of responsibility such as pharmacist-in-charge, licensee or residency training.
Languages spoken with patients deserve a mention here, because they directly affect counseling quality. Keep the summary to three lines; the credentials block above it already covers licensure.
Experience
For community roles, describe prescription volume, team size, services offered and operational duties such as inventory, audits and claims. For hospital roles, describe the units or services you cover, protocols you run, committees and teaching.
Show services you started or improved instead of listing tasks every pharmacist does. Avoid clinical outcome statistics unless your organization formally reported them; describe the process, the population and who you worked with.
Education, residency and rotations
List your PharmD or earlier pharmacy degree with the year. In the US, residency matters a great deal for hospital and clinical roles, so list PGY1 and PGY2 programs with the site and year, and residency projects if they are relevant.
New graduates can group advanced practice rotations in one entry by setting. International graduates should note their degree, credential evaluation and the steps completed toward licensure in the target state or province.
Skills
Group skills into clinical services, dispensing and operations, compounding, and systems. Name pharmacy software, EHRs and automated dispensing cabinets you have used, since onboarding is faster when the employer runs the same tools.
Management candidates should add staffing, scheduling, budgeting, inventory control and inspection readiness. Clinical candidates can list therapeutic areas they know well, such as anticoagulation, infectious disease or oncology, but only where experience on the page supports them.
Pharmacist resume summary examples

Pharmacist resume bullet examples: weak vs strong

Names a service and its structure without claiming clinical outcomes you cannot back up.
Uses the provincial authority's name and shows safe, documented practice.
Turns committee membership into a leadership role with a daily process attached.
Moves from doing a task to building a service others can deliver.
Access problems frustrate patients; showing you solve them is valuable in community roles.
Specifies the regulatory work that comes with management responsibility.

- Accuracy under pressure: Give your daily prescription or order volume alongside the checks and workflow you use to stay safe.
- Collaboration with prescribers: Mention rounding, protocols written with physicians or recommendations communicated during renewals and adaptations.
- Leadership: Show team size, technician training or committees you chair, and what changed because of your role.
- Teaching: Name students or residents you precept and the rotation or program you are responsible for.

- PEBC Qualifying Exam (Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada): Part of licensure in most Canadian provinces, together with provincial jurisprudence requirements; Quebec has its own process through the Ordre des pharmaciens du Québec.
- Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery certificate (American Pharmacists Association (APhA)): A common training program that meets immunization requirements in many US states; check your state board's rules.
- Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) (Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS)): Widely requested for clinical hospital roles; usually earned after residency or several years of clinical practice.
- Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist (BCACP) (Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS)): Fits pharmacists in clinic-based roles managing chronic diseases with physician teams.
US vs Canada: pharmacist resumes and pay
United States
US pharmacists are licensed by each state board of pharmacy after the NAPLEX and a law exam, which is the MPJE in most states but differs in some, such as California. List every active state license. Immunization authority, collaborative practice agreements and test-and-treat services depend on state law, so describe what you do within your state's rules. Hospital roles often require or prefer PGY1 residency and board certification. Chain and community roles care about prescription volume, claims and immunizations. Do not include a photo, age or marital status.
| BLS occupation | 10th pct. | Median | 90th pct. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pharmacists (SOC 29-1051) | $99,290 | $140,910 | $174,230 |
Annual wages, US national, BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics, May 2025.
Canada
In Canada, pharmacists register with a provincial regulator such as the Ontario College of Pharmacists, the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia or the Alberta College of Pharmacy, generally after the PEBC Qualifying Exam and a jurisprudence exam. Scope differs widely by province, including prescribing, minor ailment assessment, injections and renewals, so name your authorities exactly. Ontario uses designated manager for the pharmacist accountable for a store; Alberta uses licensee. Quebec practice runs through the Ordre des pharmaciens du Québec and requires French. Canadian resumes use terms like blister packs and opioid agonist therapy.
| Job Bank occupation | Low | Median | High |

FAQ
Should a pharmacist resume list the NAPLEX score?
No. Scores are not usually shared, and once you hold a license it already proves you passed. New graduates awaiting licensure can write that they passed the NAPLEX and are awaiting their license number, or give an expected licensure date.
Is residency necessary for hospital pharmacy jobs?
In the US, many hospital clinical roles require or strongly prefer PGY1 residency, and specialty roles often want PGY2. Staff and evening pharmacist roles may accept experience instead. In Canada, hospital residencies accredited by the Canadian Pharmacy Residency Board help but practice varies by hospital and province.
How do I move from retail to hospital pharmacy?
Highlight clinical work you already do, such as medication reviews, immunizations and anticoagulation follow-up. Add any hospital rotations or relief shifts, sterile compounding training and certifications such as BCPS if you qualify. Applying for evening or weekend staff roles is a common way in.
What should a pharmacy manager resume emphasize?
Show store or department operations alongside clinical work: staff size, scheduling, inventory, audits, inspections, claims management and services you launched. Leadership hiring looks for someone who keeps the pharmacy compliant and running smoothly while growing services, so balance both.
How do internationally trained pharmacists present their background?
List your pharmacy degree and country, the credential evaluation you completed and each licensing step you have passed, such as PEBC or NAPLEX components. Include any work in Canada or the US as a pharmacy assistant, technician or intern, since local experience reassures employers.
