Scrum Master Resume Template (Harvard): Entry level Example
Tomás Echeverría, QA Analyst and Acting Scrum Master ATS-friendly
Tomás has no scrum master title, so his combined job title tells the truth while his bullets show real SM work: retrospectives, board redesign, product owner coaching and flow tracking. His support role proves he can run a recurring meeting with non-technical people. The meetup adds facilitation evidence, and PSM I is the one credential most first-time hiring managers recognize.

Tomás Echeverría · Phoenix, AZ · tomas.echeverria@email.example · (602) 555-0139
Summary
QA analyst stepping into a first scrum master role after two years on a Scrum team where he ran retrospectives whenever the SM was away. Keeps boards honest in Jira, turns retro notes into tracked experiments and is comfortable asking the awkward question in planning. Holds PSM I and is working toward PSM II.
Experience
QA Analyst and Acting Scrum Master, Saguaro Benefits Online · Phoenix, AZ · May 2023 — Present
- Facilitated 14 retrospectives as backup scrum master, introducing a one-experiment-per-sprint rule that the team kept after the permanent SM returned.
- Rebuilt the team's Jira board with explicit columns for review and testing, exposing a QA queue that the team then cut by pairing developers with testers.
- Coached the product owner on splitting large stories by workflow step, so fewer items rolled over between sprints and the sprint goal became meaningful again.
- Tracked cycle time weekly in a simple dashboard and shared it at reviews, giving stakeholders a calmer view of delivery than story points alone.
Customer Support Specialist, Valley Desert Insurance Services · Tempe, AZ · Aug 2021 — Apr 2023
- Ran a weekly huddle with support and claims staff to collect recurring customer complaints, turning the top items into tickets the software team could prioritize.
- Wrote short how-to guides in English and Spanish that new support staff used during their first week on the phones.
Projects
Community meetup facilitation
- Co-organizes a monthly local agile meetup, designing lean coffee and liberating structures sessions for groups of 20 to 40 practitioners.

Scrum Master Resume Template (Modern): Mid level Example
Aaliyah Desrosiers, Scrum Master ATS-friendly
Aaliyah's bullets show changes in how teams deliver rather than events attended: forecasting that stakeholders trust, WIP limits that shortened cycle time and an escalation that won funding. Serving three teams at once signals she can handle the load many employers now expect. Her PSM II and Kanban credentials match the flow-based approach her bullets describe.

How to write each section of a scrum master resume
Header and title
Include name, city, email, phone and LinkedIn. Use the title on your offer letter for each job, but if you facilitated a team without the formal title, a combined title such as Developer and Team Scrum Master is acceptable when it reflects real duties your manager would confirm.
If you speak at meetups or write about facilitation, a link to a talk or article gives reviewers a sense of how you think.
Summary
State how many years you have served teams, how many teams you support at once, the industries involved and the frameworks you use, such as Scrum, Kanban, SAFe or LeSS. Then name your approach: flow-based forecasting, product owner coaching or scaling support.
Avoid phrases like passionate servant leader on their own. Show the service through a short, specific claim instead.
Experience
Write bullets about changes, not ceremonies. Every scrum master runs stand-ups; fewer can say cycle time dropped, forecasts became reliable, a cross-team blocker was funded or a product owner learned to write sprint goals. Name the teams, their product area and size so readers can picture the context.
Credit the team for delivery and describe your part as the enabler. Hiring managers notice when an SM claims to have built the product, and modest, specific wording reads as more senior.
Skills
Split skills into frameworks and practices, metrics and forecasting, tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps or Miro, and facilitation and coaching techniques. Postings for SAFe environments often name Jira Align or PI planning explicitly, so include those if you have used them.
Technical literacy helps in software settings. A line on CI/CD, testing or cloud basics shows you can follow developer discussions and spot delivery bottlenecks.
Education and certifications
Scrum masters come from many degrees, including business, communication, psychology and computing. List your degree briefly; it rarely decides the hire, and a facilitation or coaching course can sit beside it.
Certifications appear in most postings. Name the issuer, since PSM from Scrum.org and CSM from Scrum Alliance are different credentials, and list advanced levels such as PSM II, CSP-SM or ICP-ACC above the foundation ones.
Scrum Master resume summary examples
Entry-level objective: QA analyst seeking a first scrum master role on a product team ready to experiment. Brings two years inside Scrum, 14 retrospectives facilitated as backup SM, a redesigned Jira workflow that exposed a testing queue, and the PSM I certification.
It proves facilitation experience without an SM title and gives a hiring manager numbers to ask about in the interview.
New-grad summary: Business graduate who served as team lead for a semester-long software capstone run in two-week sprints, keeping the board in Jira and facilitating every retrospective. Organizes a student agile club, holds the Certified ScrumMaster credential and wants an associate scrum master program.
Graduates rarely have work history, so it uses a capstone and club leadership as real facilitation evidence.
Mid-level summary: Scrum master with six years in insurance technology and ecommerce, now serving three product teams. Uses cycle time, throughput and Monte Carlo forecasts instead of velocity targets, coaches product owners on outcome-focused backlogs and resolves cross-team blockers before they escalate.
Team count, industries and a flow-based method appear early, which separates a practicing SM from a meeting scheduler.
Senior summary: Enterprise agile coach and former release train engineer with 14 years in healthcare, banking and retail software. Coaches executives through SAFe and LeSS adoption, leads scrum master communities and judges change by flow, quality and team health rather than framework compliance.
Scaling frameworks, leadership coaching and outcome-based measurement are what organizations hiring a senior coach screen for.
Scrum Master resume bullet examples: weak vs strong
The strong versions use made-up figures for a fictional candidate. Replace them with your own real numbers, or describe the scope (team size, volume, frequency) if you have none.
Shows the facilitator changed an outcome, not just that meetings happened on the calendar.
Cycle time is a measure stakeholders understand, and the bullet names the practice that moved it.
Demonstrates modern forecasting and its human effect on the team, two things hiring managers probe.
Evidence-based escalation that changed a system beyond the team proves influence without authority.
Specific coaching content plus a visible result shows how the SM improved the backlog.
Scale and named parties show you led a large planning event rather than attending one.
A concrete adaptation for a real constraint is more convincing than a general claim of remote experience.
Senior coaches are hired to change management habits, and this shows one change with its payoff.

Soft skills, and how to prove them
- Influence without authority: Describe a blocker outside your team that you resolved by bringing data or the right people together, and what changed afterward.
- Neutral facilitation: Mention a tense planning or retrospective session where you kept the group on track and reached an agreement everyone kept.
- Coaching: Show a product owner, developer or manager who took on a new practice after your coaching, and how it improved their work.
- Courage: Give an example of challenging an unrealistic deadline or a harmful practice, and the outcome for the team.
- Patience with change: Explain how you introduced a practice gradually, adjusted it after feedback and kept it in place over several months.
Certifications and licenses
- Professional Scrum Master (PSM I, PSM II) (Scrum.org): Assessment-based with no required course, and the credential does not expire; PSM II signals deeper coaching and facilitation knowledge.
- Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) (Scrum Alliance): Requires a two-day course with a certified trainer and periodic renewal; the path continues to A-CSM and CSP-SM.
- SAFe Scrum Master (SSM) (Scaled Agile, Inc.): Useful when targeting companies running SAFe release trains; the Release Train Engineer credential fits more senior scaled roles.
- ICAgile Certified Professional in Agile Coaching (ICP-ACC) (ICAgile): Focuses on coaching and facilitation skills, a good step for scrum masters moving toward agile coach positions.

US vs Canada: scrum master resumes and pay
United States
In the US, scrum master roles cluster in software, banking, insurance, healthcare and government contracting. Federal programs often require US citizenship or a clearance and may list SAFe experience because many agencies and contractors use it. A fair number of postings are contract positions through staffing firms, so keep contract dates and client industries clear on each entry. Many employers list CSM, PSM or SAFe certification as required. Leave out photos and personal details such as age or marital status.
| BLS occupation | 10th pct. | Median | 90th pct. |

Canada
In Canada, scrum master hiring is concentrated around Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa, in banking, insurance, telecom and federal government work. Federal departments and their contractors may require reliability security screening, and French is often an asset or requirement in Ottawa and Quebec. Some roles are offered through incorporated contracting, so state if you can work through your own corporation. List certifications with the issuer, since Canadian postings often name PSM, CSM or SAFe specifically.

FAQ
What is the best resume template for a scrum master?
For online applications, use a single-column template that applicant tracking systems read top to bottom. The scrum master samples on this page come in four of them: Harvard (shown with the entry-level resume, education can sit first), Modern (mid-level, experience first, a safe default for most employers), Consulting (senior, achievements in bold stand out to the recruiter) and European (fits a long career on one page). Compact and Creative use two columns: they read well to a person, but some older ATS parse them out of order, so keep them for referrals and emails to a hiring manager.
Should a scrum master resume be one page?
Usually, yes. In the US, one page is the norm for a scrum master with less than about 10 years of experience, and all six samples on this page fit on one page. A senior scrum master with a long, relevant track record can use two pages, as long as page one carries the most recent and relevant roles. Canadian employers accept two pages more readily than US ones.
Can I become a scrum master without experience?
Yes, but start by facilitating where you already are. Offer to run retrospectives, keep the team board current or coach a teammate on story splitting, then earn PSM I or CSM. Developers, testers, analysts and project coordinators move into the role most easily because they already understand how the team works.
PSM or CSM: which certification should I get?
Both are widely recognized. PSM I from Scrum.org is an online assessment with no mandatory course and no renewal fee, while CSM from Scrum Alliance includes a live course and renews every two years. Look at postings in your city; many accept either, and some employers simply name the one their coaches hold.
Should I list velocity on a scrum master resume?
Avoid velocity increases as a headline result, because experienced readers know points can be inflated. Flow measures such as cycle time, throughput or predictability of forecasts are more credible. Mention velocity only if you used it responsibly, for example to help a team plan capacity.
How many teams should a scrum master support?
It varies by organization. Some employers keep one SM per team, while others expect two or three teams per person, especially for experienced hires. State the number of teams you served on each job so a hiring manager can compare it with their own setup.
What is the difference between a scrum master and an agile coach?
A scrum master serves one or a few teams, focusing on their events, flow and impediments. An agile coach works across many teams and with leaders, shaping structure, portfolio practices and scaling. Senior scrum masters often grow into coaching by mentoring other SMs and working with management on system problems.
Are these scrum master resume templates free?
Yes. Every sample on this page downloads free as a PDF (exact design, selectable text) or as an editable Word .docx file, with no account. If you want the AI to fill a template with your own experience and tailor it to a job posting, the free AutoApplyMax plan includes 1 tailored resume a month.
